Community College Faculty Institute: Climate change and eutrophication in coastal and marine ecosystems (Washington)

Location: Shannon Point Marine Center, Western Washington Unviersity, Anacortes, WA
Attendance: Community college faculty who teach oceanography or who are interested in developing an oceanography course, and faculty who wish to incorporate the institute topics into their science courses.

Each day of the Climate change and Eutrophication in Coastal and Marine Ecosystems institute will include presentations by scientists who study the topic, resources, and curriculum materials, including lab exercises and field activities where appropriate, that could be used in a community college course.

Topics will include Climate change and impacts on organisms; Predator-prey interactions and marine food webs; Hypoxia in Hood Canal and along Coastal Oregon; Ocean acidification and impacts on shellfish; Invasive species; and Intertidal surveys at Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve; Using ocean observing systems and oceanographic cruise data; data analysis techniques; field techniques; and interactive teaching methods, techniques, and teaching pedagogy.
